Duke Family Support Program's Newsletter for Alzheimer's Caregivers

One of the leaders in Alzheimer's research, Duke University, offers a caregiver newsletter through the Duke Family Support Program.

The Duke program offers information and/or consultation to caregivers in North Carolina, as a free service. The program has a focus on the caregivers of people suffering from Alzheimer's Disease and/or dementia.

The program offers a free caregivers newsletter to residents of North Carolina. Read it online or call 1-800-672-4213 for a print version. Out-of-state residents may order the publication for a nominal fee ($10).

Duke Tool Kit for Alzheimer's & Dementia Caregivers

Though not a newsletter, the Duke Family Support Program also offers a Caregiver Tool Kit that provides support information. Newsletters are typically designed to provide support in small doses. The Tool Kit provides similar information in a comprehensive package that you can keep on hand to use as needed.

National Institute on Aging's Alzheimer's Family Caregiver Guides

The National Institute on Aging offers Alzheimer's Family Caregiver Guides.

 

The Alzheimer's Disease Education and Referral Center of the National Institite on Aging also offers a publication to help Alzheimer's caregivers cope with a hospital visit and/or stay. A trip to the hospital for a person with memory loss or dementia can be stressful for both the person and the accompanying caregiver. This 18-page booklet provides tips to lessen the stress and enhance the comfort of the patient, deal with anxiety or agitation, and work with hospital staff and doctors. It also includes checklists for planning ahead for emergency and scheduled hospital stays. Older Woman

TJAAA Ombudsman Newsletter on Alzheimer's

Triangle J Area Agency on Aging's Ombudsmen publish a quarterly newsletter designed for residents and caregivers of residents of long-term care facilities - assisted living or nursing homes. One issue was devoted specifically to those suffering from Alzheimer's Disease and/or dementia.
